getting even

This topic is also covered in the bible. this goes along with anger so well.

We get angry and what is the next step? Wanting to hurt the person that hurt us. This is just as unhealthy as being angry.

Matthew 5:38-47   titled Be Kind to Others

38. You have heard that it was said, ‘ An eye must be put out for an eye. A tooth must be knocked out for a tooth.’ 39. But here is what I tell you Do not fight against an evil person. Suppose someone slaps you on your right cheek. Turn your other cheek to them also. 40. Suppose someone takes you to court to get your shirt. Let them have your coat also. 41. Suppose someone forces you go to one mile. Go two miles with them. 42. Give to the one who asks you for something. Don’t turn away from the one who wants to borrow something from you.

Love your enemies

43. You have heard that is was said, ‘Love your neighbor. Hate your enemy. 44. But here is what I tell you. Love your enemies. Pray for those who hurt you. 45. Then you will be children of your Father who is in heaven. He causes his sun to shine on evil people and good people. He sends rain on those who do right and those who don’t. 46. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Even the tax collectors do that. 47. If you greet only your people what more are you doing than others? Even people who are ungodly do that. 48. So be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.

These 10 verses say a lot!

eye for an eye – this is getting even – but God doesn’t want us to do that!

Do not fight against an evil person – that will get us no where. neither of you will admit you are wrong and this will just end up hurting your relationship.

go two miles with them – go the extra mile with someone  especially if you care for them – show someone you are willing to go out of your way for them just because.

I always hated the saying keep your friends close and your enemies closer- because of the negativity that comes from it! – love your neighbor hate your enemy – just as bad. – love your enemies. Pray for those that hurt you! this is what a christian looks like! You pray for those who hurt you and pray they find the way, while you do this you are also praying and giving your anger to God. Letting it go it the best thing you can do. God loves all of us. The sun shines on evil people and good people. God doesn’t say you can’t have sun just because we did something bad. If he did that, then at some point and time, none of us would have sun. he loves us. ALL of us!

So be perfect, just as your Father in heaven if perfect – What a scripture! how beautiful!!! This is what God wants us to do!

Roman 12:17-21

17. Don’t pay back evil with evil. Be careful to do what everyone thinks is right.18. If possible, live in peace with everyone. Do that as much as you can. 19. My dear friends don’t try to get even. Leave room for God to show his anger. It is written. ‘I am the God who judges people. I will pay them back’ says the Lord. 20. Do just the opposite. Scripture says, ” if your enemies are hungry, give them food to eat. If they are thirsty, give them something to drink. By doing these things, you will pile up burning coals on their heads.” 21. Don’t let evil overcome you. Overcome evil by doing good.

God does the judging so we don’t have to! We aren’t suppose to! Instead we are supposed to help our brothers and sisters especially when they are in need.

by doing these things you will pile burning coals on their head – my interpretation of this is: These people have done bad things to do, We do  kind things for them. Yet they are the ones that stand out because they will realize that you took the high road even when they couldn’t. You will be the bigger person – and those coals will weigh them down with guilt because they didn’t try to be kind even though you were able to.

don’t let evil overcome you. Overcome evil by doing good. – YES! I have let evil take control of me too much over the past years- but I am through with that! The devil no longer has power over me and neither does anyone that brings negatively in my life. Keep doing good – keep doing you – my sister says all the time – you do you boo boo – so do you boo- boo and just be kind and good. Make God proud of you! Strive to be perfect like He is!!!

Last one, 1 Peter 3:8-14 Suffering from Doing good

8. Finally, I want all of you to agree with one another. Be understanding. Love one another. Be kind and tender. Be humble. 9. do not pay back evil with evil. Don’t pay back unkind words with unkind words. Instead, pay back evil with kind words. this is what you have been chosen to do. you will receive a blessing by doing this. 10 Scripture says ‘Suppose someone want to love life and see good days. Then they must keep their tongues from speaking evil. They must keep their lips from telling lies. 11.They must turn away evil and do good. They must look for peace and go after it. 12. The Lord’s eyes look on godly people and he blesses them. His hears are open to their prayers. but the Lord doesn’t bless those who do evil” (10-12 comes from Psalms 34: 12-16)  13. Who is going to hurt you if you really want to do good? 14. But suppose you do suffered from doing what is right. Even then you will be blessed. Scripture says, “Don’t fear what other say they will do to hurt you. don’t be afraid” (Isaiah 8:12).

This goes along with the Golden Rule – treat others the way you want to be treated – Even if they have said the wrong thing first. Again something I am bad at. why? because I want to get even. but God is telling us don’t get even! don’t send unkind words back to the person who said them to you first! be the bigger person! be kind! If you truly want to live in good not evil do it! He tells us – don’t let your tongue say something evil – don’t let your lips lie- and look for peace and go to it! Don’t  just want to do it- actually do it! Actions  speak more than words and thoughts.

Prove to God you are wanting to be this person. Show him you want peace, goodness, kindness, not evil and unkind.

this makes me think of the Tim McGraw song
